These are the steps to create an NFS repository. The repository is used to store virtual machine templates and also virtual disk snapshots and conversions shared among the managed hypervisors. Abiquo Remote Services and Abiquo V2V Services also need the NFS share to operate properly. Steps to accomplish this will be shown on VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client (VIC.) The steps are similar on XenServer.
| Note: Any existing NFS-shared directory is sufficient. Abiquo EE does not control the NFS Server or requires a specific file system layout, it only requires a big enough share to store the VM templates and Virtual Disk conversions. |
1. After login in to the VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client (VIC) create a virtual machine.
2. Select Custom and click Next.
3. Give the virtual machine a descriptive name and click Next.
4. Place the virtual machine in an appropriate location and click Next.
5. Select the Virtual Machine Version and click Next.
6. For the virtual machine operating system select Linux/Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (64-bit) and click Next.
7. The default of 1 virtual processor is fine. Please click Next.
8. The amount of RAM is recommended to be 2GB. Click Next after making your choice.
9. One virtual network is fine. Please click Next.
10. The default SCSI controller is fine. Please click Next.
11. Select to create a new virtual disk and click Next.
12. Enter an appropriate size for the virtual disk. The bigger the size the more virtual machine templates/snapshots/conversions are able to be stored.
Click Next after entering your choice.
13. You can click Next at the Advanced Options dialog box since these choices are best left alone.
14. At the summary screen check the box "Edit the virtual machine settings ..." and click Continue.
15. Under Hardware click the New CD/DVD (adding) option. Select the Datastore ISO File option under Device Type and ensure the checkbox is ticked next to Connect at power on.
16. Click the Browse button and browse to the datastore that holds the Abiquo ISO image and click the OK button.
17. Click the Finish button to create the virtual machine.
18. The hypervisor will take a few seconds to create the virtual machine. Once created open the console to the virtual machine.
19. Power on the virtual machine by clicking the green play button.
20. The Abiquo EE Setup screen will display. Click inside the window to ensure the VIC captures the keyboard/mouse for the virtual machine and press the <ENTER> key.
21. You will have the option of testing the ISO image. Make your choice to continue.
22. At the Abiquo EE Release Notes screen click the Next button.
23. Select the keyboard and click the Next button.
24. A warning message will appear because the virtual hard disk is unreadable. Click Yes to continue.
25. The installation will need to partition the disk. Click the Next button.
26. A warning message will appear stating that all partitions will be removed. Click the Yes button.
27. At the networking screen you will need to enter addressing information.
If DHCP is used in the environment you can simply click the Next button.
If not you will need to click the Edit button and supply the following information:
Enable IPv4 support should be checked
Manual configuration should be selected
IP Address IP address for the virtual machine
Prefix subnet mask for the virtual machine
Enable IPv6 support should be UNCHECKED
Click the OK button after making the changes.
28. These additional settings need to be supplied:
Hostname: manually friendly name for the NFS server
Miscellaneous Settings
Gateway default gateway of the network
Primary DNS primary DNS server IP address
Secondary DNS Secondary DNS server IP address, if any
After making your changes please click the Next button.
29. Select your location and click the Next button
30. Enter the system password and click the Next button.
31. At this screen we must scroll down and select the Abiquo Remote Repository option and click the Next button.
32. The Abiquo Management IP is the IP address of the Abiquo server. Enter it and click Next to continue.
33. Click the Next button to start the installation of the Abiquo Remote Repository virtual machine.
