IP pools are used to define groups of IP addresses for further usage. It is a simple configuration for serve IP addresses to clients.
In Abiquo, every IP Pool is part of a VLAN domain trunked before Level 3 OSI. In other words, same IPs and IPs into the same range of networks from different VLANs don't see each other. That guarantees an important network isolation and security.
As a user , you can define N ( by default, N is 8, depends on Abiquo Administrator policies) VLANs for each VirtualDatacenter. The first one is created and marked as default. Marked as default means the Virtual Machines created inside your Virtual Appliances will take the next available IP address of this VLAN. Thats a good feature if you don't want to define complex network dependences or if you don't care about the network configuration.
Private IP addresses
As an Enterprise admin, the private network configuration is up to you. You'll be able to create, edit its configuration and delete the VLANs defined for your Virtual Datacenters.
Private Network Screen
To manage the Private IPs VLAN, you should select your Virtual Datacenter and press the Neworking tab. Make sure to have the inner tab Private selected. You will see the lists of VLANs.

For visualize the Pool of IPs and its assigments, you can press the All button on the top of the VLANs screen to see al the IPs of the Virtual Datacenter or you can select one VLAN. Besides pagging feature, you can filter the search filling the textbox just next the search button
. The filter works with all the columns of the grid. That's:
- IP Address.
- MAC address.
- VLAN name.
- Virtual Appliance that uses the IP.
- Virtual Machine that uses the IP.
Create a VLAN
At least it will be one VLAN, the default one. You can press the
button to add more VLANs to your Virtual Datacenter. You'll se the following formulary:

Here you have to define the network configuration, It's mandatory you inform :
- name of the VLAN (can not be used in the Virtual Datacenter).
- the Private Class Range (A, B or C)
- the Network mask
- its Network Address
- the Gateway. The gateway must be an IP address inside the Network you have defined.
As an optional values, you can define:
- The primary DNS
- The secondary DNS
- The DNS sufix
- If the VLAN is the default network. If you mark this checkbox, the previous default network loses this privilege when you create this VLAN.
You can repeat the same values in all the VLANs if you want. Since its VLAN tag will be different in deploy time, there won't be collision between networks.
Edit an VLAN
In the list of VLANs, if you select an VLAN you can see the configuration
button. Press it to change configuration values:

You'll be able to change:
- The name of the VLAN.
- The Gateway.
- The Primary DNS.
- The Secondary DNS.
- The DNS sufix.
- Mark as a default.
Delete a VLAN
The
lets you to delete an VLAN without problems except when:
- A virtual machine is using an IP of the VLAN pool.
- The VLAN is marked as default.
Public IP reservation
| Enterprise Edition Functionality This feature is available in Abiquo Enterprise Edition |
As you can create VLANs of private IPs, Abiquo's administrator can create networks of public IPs. This IPs are managed by the datacenter infrastructure. As an Enterprise administrator, you can reserve them for you Virtual Machines.
Public Network Screen
To manage the access to public IPs, you should select your Virtual Datacenter and press the Neworking tab. Make sure to have the inner Public tab is selected. You will see the lists of public IPs reserved for your Virtual Datacenter.

| Before reserving Public IP addresses The public IP addresses shown in the Public IP list contains the IP addresses configured in the Infrastructure view as explained in the Manage networking configuration page. |
To visualize the Pool of IPs and its assigments, you can filter the search filling the textbox just next the search button
. The filter works with all the columns of the grid. That's:
- The IP Address.
- The MAC Address.
- The VLAN name.
- The Virtual Appliance that uses the IP.
- The Virtual Machine that uses the IP.
Purchase a new public IP
To purchase a new public IP, just press the
button in the down-left corner in the List screen. You will see a list of all the available Public IPs in the Datacenter that the Virtual Datacenter is stored:
