This page describes the steps to configure a NexentaStor host to work as a storage technology for XenServer hypervisor.
Install NexentaStor Storage Adapter
- Install and a NexentaStor storage system as explained here: Nexenta Storage Configuration
- Download, install and configure the NexentaStor Storage Adapter following Nexenta instructions: http://www.nexenta.com/corp/adapter-for-citrix-storagelink-download
| After adapter installation Once the NexentaStor Storage Adapter has been installed, the StorageLink Gateway Service must be restarted. |
Configure StorageLink
StorageLink must be configured to access NexentaStore, and to provide XenServer with an Storage Repository that points to the nexentaStor installation. The following sections describe both configurations.
NexentaStor Storage Adapter Configuration
To configure the NexentaStor Storage Adapter, the first thing to do is to introduce a the Storage Adapter credentials. This credentials were set during NexentaStor Adapter installation process. To add the storage credentials:
- Open StorageLink Manager and go to the Administration section.
- Right-click Nexenta Storage Adapter and select Add Storage Adapter credentials from the context menu.
- Fill the form with the appropiate values as shown in the following image.
Once the Storage Adapter credentials had been set, go to Storage Infrastructure section and perform a Storage System rescan as shown in the following screenshot:
Add XenServer hypervisor host
The following step is to let StorageLink know where XenServer hypervisor is located. To do so:
- Go to Hypervisor Hosts section.
- Right-click the Hypervisor Hosts element, and select Add Hypervisor Host from the context menu.
- Fill the form with the appropiate values as shown in the following image.
Configure a Storage Repository in XenServer
Once the XenServer hsot has been added to StorageLink, we are ready to add a Storage Repository to it as follows:
- Go to Storage Repositories section.
- Right-click the Storage Repositories element, and select Create Storage Repository from the context menu.
- Follow the wizard as shown in the following screenshots.
Select the Nexenta Storage System that was discovered previously, select the appropiate Hypervisor Host and click Next.
Enter the Storage Repository properties and click Next.
If desired, attach existing volumes to the Storage Repository. This is not necessary since Abiquo will attach them automatically (if not already attached) when needed.
Once the Storage Repository has been created, XenServer hypervisor can be used to deploy virtual machines with external storage.
