Release Notes 1.6.0

Abiquo 1.6.0 basics

This release is mainly defined by three important developments with respect to the Abiquo 1.5.X version:

  • Xen Server plugin
  • API fundamentals
  • Networking refactoring

Xen Server

The XenServer hypervisor has been added to the list of hypervisors supported in the Abiquo Platform. From now on, it is possible to deploy and manage virtual machines in XenServer hosts as easily as in the rest of the supported hypervisors.

External storage
The external storage features (available in Enterprise Edition only) are still a work in progess and will come up in future releases.

API fundamentals

Alfa version of our REST Api. It handles Abiquo's infrastructure services as well as a few cloud services. Further information about the api can be found into its own section of this wiki:

Networking refactoring

Until version 1.6.0, the Networking was a simple feature to provide a unique IP address and Internet access to Virtual Machines. The IP range of every Virtual Datacenter was decided from Abiquo Server internal managment. The Networking refactoring is basically the development of VLAN functionality in the platform. Now, you can create several VLANs for your VirtualDatacenter and give them the private network ranges you wish. Since there are different VLAN domains, you can also duplicate the ranges. You can see the topology requirements and the development decisions here . Public IP management has also been improved.

Datacenter Repository

Moving from single repository configuration to isolated virtual image repositories for each datacenter.
This goal is achieved by defining the Appliance Manager as a new remote service of the datacenter, a new repository is attached to the datacenter based on the configuration consulted to the Appliance Manager.
