Types of Installation

Work in Progress
This documentation is unfinished

The Abiquo Platform jigsaw is composed of three different building blocks (excluding external services such as DB, DHCP server, etc)

1. The Abiquo Server
2. The Abiquo Remote Services Server
3. The Abiquo V2V Server

Each of this pieces can be installed in a dedicated server (distributed install) or they can be installed together in one dedicated server (monolithic install).

Distributed installs scale better and they are recommended for production environments, but they they are far more complex to setup and maintain. If you are installing Abiquo for the first time, we recommend you to play with the Monolithic install first and move to the advanced distributed install once you feel comfortable with the platform.

Distributed Install

In distributed installs, you are required to have 3 servers, one for each of the following tasks:

Abiquo Server Install

Selecting this option will install the MySQL database server, the web client required to manage the platform and the API server.

1. Distributed 1.6.8 Install - Installing the Abiquo Server

Remote Services Install

Selecting this option will install the required services to manage your datacenter infrastructure (the DHCP server and the Abiquo remote services) from the Abiquo Web UI.

2. Distributed 1.6.8 Install - Installing Abiquo Remote Services

Abiquo V2V Conversion Services Install

Install the required services to perform the "Virtual to Virtual" conversions (i.e. converting from one virtual disk format to another).

3. Distributed 1.6.8 Install - Installing Abiquo V2V Conversion Services

Monolithic Install

Warning
This installer profile has been removed in Abiquo 1.6.8. Same functionality can be achieved selecting Server + Remote Services + V2v Conversion Services when installing.

Selecting this option installs the Abiquo Server + Abiquo Remote Services + Abiquo V2V conversion services + some of the external dependencies (DHCP, NFS, SAMBA, etc).

This option is highly recommended for small installations and/or demos.

Cloud-in-a-Box Install

This feature is only available for Abiquo 1.6.8 and later releases.

The "Cloud in a Box" installer profile installs everything required to run the Abiquo Platform in one server:

  • Abiquo Platform
  • Storage Server (using the Abiquo LVM Storage Connector)
  • KVM Hypervisor

No additional servers required to evaluate the platform.

This option is highly recommended for evaluation and SOHO installations.

Installing Abiquo Enterprise 1.6.8 - Cloud in a Box install

LVM Storage Server Install

This feature is only available for Abiquo 1.6.8 and later releases.

NetApp Storage Connector Install

This feature is only available for Abiquo 1.6.8 and later releases.

Abiquo Remote Repository Install

This feature is only available for Abiquo 1.6.8 and later releases.
