This page describes the installation procedure of a XenServer cloud node,and its configuration to integrate it in the Abiquo platform.
XenServer installation
To install XenServer, the installations ISOs must be downloaded from the Citrix site: http://www.citrix.com/
Download the Product Installer and the Linux Guest Support images. By default, XenServer comes only with support for Windows Guests, so Linux Guest Support ISO must be downloaded if you plan to deploy Linux images.
Optionally, XenCenter can be downloaded and installed on a machine to manage XenServer from a user-friendly interface.
Once images are downloaded, refer to XenServer official installation instructions to install it in the cloud node. You can find them in the XenServer Documentation Index.
Preparing XenServer to use external storage features

To be able to use external storage features in XenServer, Citrix StorageLink must be installed too. StorageLink is part of the Citrix Essentials for XenServer suite, and comes with XenServer Enterprise Edition. Download it from the Citrix site and proceed with the installation procedure described below.

StorageLink supported technologies
A full list of StorageLink supported storage technologies can be found here: http://hcl.vmd.citrix.com/SLG-HCLHome.aspx
These storage technologies are the ones supported by XenServer. Altough Abiquo supports others (like ZFS or LVM) they cannot be used with XenServer, because they are not supported in StorageLink.
Installing Citrix StorageLink

When starting the StorageLink installation, a wizard with the following options will appear. Just follow it to install them:
- Installation of a License Server. This License Server is a Citrix specific licensing server that will hold all customer licenses. StorageLink and XenServer connect to this License Server to check customer license details. You must install the license server, obtain and install an Enterprise or Platinum license.
- Installation of the StorageLink Gateway. This gateway is a Windows Service that exposes all StorageLink functionallity. Abiquo will access StorageLink Gateway using the SOAP protocol.
- (Optional) Installation of the StorageLink Manager. This is an optional GUI application, but its installation is recommended, since it will be the tool used to enable external storage features in XenServer hypervisor.

Checking StorageLink Gateway permissions if necessary
In some Windows versions, an error may appear while starting the StorageLink Gateway Service. This error appears because of an invalid configuration of the service permissions. To fix it, go to the Services control panel, and set the StorageLink Gateway Service to use the Local System Account as shown in the following screenshot:
Once the StorageLink Gateway Service is installed, you can verify the connection using the StorageLink Manager.
Configure StorageLink access in Abiquo remote services

Log in to the Abiquo Remote Services machine, or to the Abiquo Server if you performed a Cloud in a Box or Monolithic installation and run the following commands:
abicli set storagelink-address <storagelink gateway service address> abicli set storagelink-user <storagelink gateway username> abicli set storagelink-password <storagelink gateway password> service abiquo-tomcat restart
