Datacenter Management
Cloud administrators can manage the physical infrastructure (represented in Abiquo as a set of Physical Datacenters) from the Infrastructure view.

The available operations in this view are:
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
|
Create a new Datacenter |
|
Remove an existing Datacenter |
|
Edit the selected Datacenter |
Creating a Datacenter
| API feature This feature is available in the API. See Datacenter Resource. |
To create a new Datacenter, user must enter the name and location of the Datacenter, and the location of the different remote services that are deployed with the Abiquo Platform.

The basic fields of the Datacenter creation form are:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | The name of the Datacenter |
| Location | The physical location of the datacenter |
Remote Services
| API feature This feature is available in the API. See Remote Service Resource. |
Since Abiquo is based on a distributed architecture, the Remote Rervice interface provides a way to configure the different services of the distributed architecture that will be used by a Datacenter, to provide the IaaS Cloud. The Remote Services used by Abiquo are:
| Remote Service | Description |
|---|---|
| Virtualization Manager | Manages the Virtual Appliance lifecycle. Connects to Cloud Nodes to perform Virtual Machine operations. |
| Monitor Manager | Responsible for Virtual Appliance monitoring. Listens to events produced in Cloud Nodes and updates Virtual Appliance state. |
| Appliance Manager | Manages the Image Library and the Image repositories. |
For each Remote Service the fields described in the following table must be filled. After filling them up, users can use the Check button to test Remote Service connection.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Protocol | The protocol used to connect to the Remote Service |
| Address | The address of the Remote Service |
| Port | The port used to connect the Remote Service. The default port is 80 |
| Context | The context where the Remote Service is published |
| Remote Service Address By default, the Remote Service address is empty, you have to specify an accessible (public) IP. Abiquo exchanges these addresses between the distributed components of the platform, so addresses such as localhost or 127.0.0.1 are not allowed in order to avoid inter-module communication issues. The icon will be displayed once the IP is well formatted. |
| Remote Services Uniqueness virtual factory, virtual system monitor and appliance manager can not be shared across datacenters. This is duet remote service configuration include the NFS image repository to be used on the datacenter (the this can't be shared across datacenters). |
| Don't create a Datacenter without all the Remote Services Running Create Datacenter formulary lets you check if the URLs you have informed have the corresponding Remote Service running there. Without all the Remote Services running its impossible to deploy machines. Unless you know exactly what you are doing, we strongly recommend do not create a Datacenter if you have any Remote Service down or bad configured. |
Enterprise Edition Remote Services
| Enterprise Edition Functionality This feature is available in Abiquo Enterprise Edition |
| Remote Service | Description |
|---|---|
| Discovery Manager | Used to automatically discover physical machines. Can retrieve hardware information, Hypervisor type, and existing Virtual Machine information. |
| DHCP Service | The DHCP service used to assign an IP address to the Abiquo managed Virtual Machines. |
| Business Process Manager | Performs asynchronous Virtual-to-Virtual (V2V) operations. |
| Storage Manager | Manages External Storage in a standard way. |
| About Storage Manager The Storage Manager remote service does not appear in Datacenter creation form until version 1.7.5, because its behavior is a little bit special. To add the Storage Manager remote service, just create the Datacenter, and add it from the Datacenter edition form. |
Type the Remote Service URL only once in monolithic distributions.
If you have all the remote services deployed in the same machine, just enable the
checkbox and you'll be able to modify the Remote Services' URL in the same time.
Go Inside the Datacenter Configuration Detail once is created.
To do that, just enable the
checkbox.
Modifying a Datacenter
| API feature This feature is available in the API. See Datacenter Resource. |
The following image shows the popup that appears when the user modifies a Datacenter. All information that can be entered in this popup is identical to the described in the previous section.
The following actions are allowed in the Remote Services tab:
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
|
Add a Remote Service to the Datacenter. |
|
Remove the selected Remote Service. |
|
Check the status of the selected Remote service. |
|
Edit the selected Remote Service. |
Deleting a Datacenter
In order to delete a Datacenter, just press the
in the bottom-left part of the DATACENTERS screen.
| Datacenter deletion restriction Abiquo won't let you delete a datacenter if you have any Virtual Datacenter defined in it. You should first [delete the Virtual Datacenter] |
