Glossary
The aim of this section is to list and describe in a functional view the different components that it will appear in the documentation
| Concept | Description |
|---|---|
| Cloud | the name identifying the group of data centers that offer scalability and other cloud features to final users |
| Data center | group of physical machines in the same LAN (Local Area Network). These machines share place, network and resources (pe power light). |
| Rack | In each data center, you can group physical machines in racks (like in a real datacenter). |
| Machine | physical resource (server) that has the hypervisor (virtualization infrastructure). |
| Hypervisor | virtualization platform allowing the creation of different virtual machines in the same physical machine. |
| Virtual Machine | virtual instance of an operative system. One Pysical Machine with a Hypervisor installed can create various virtual machines. |
| Virtual Storage System |
A Virtual Storage System (VSM) it's the component that manage different Storage systems (Storage Pools). The virtual Storage System is the facade that allows abiCloud to connect to this storage pools and their capacities. |
| Storage pool |
A centralizated storage infrastructure that allows to create iSCSI volumes and attach them into the virtual machines |
| Remote service |
A component that allows to manage abiCloud infrastructure inside a datacenter. Typically, there are the following remote services:
|
| Physical Machine |
A machine with a supported hypervisor techonlogy available on the cloud infraestructure. On these physical machien one or more virtual machine will be deployed. |
| Virtual Image | A virtual disk with the deploy requirements: resouces (CPU, RAM and HD) and hypervisor technology associated to the disk format (pending OVF normalization: Disk and Virtual System) |
| Virtual Machine | An instance of a Virtual Image once it is deployed on a physical machine. |
| Appliance Library | abiCloud has a centralizated pre-configurated images library that allows enterprises to upload from disk new virtual disk, connect to remote repository spaces and download to local disk a virtual disk. |
| Enterprise Repository |
Each enterprise has its own Appliance Library where enterprise's users can show the public appliances (available for all users) or private appliances. |
| Repository Space | A public repository of virtual images. Accessible descritpions amb disk files using HTTP . Standarize external virtual image providers. |
| Network | abiCloud allow to manage private and publics IP in the infrastructure and in the virtual machines. |
| Enterprises/Groups |
abiCloud is a multi-tenant application. A Group or enterprise is a third party company, a development group, an enterprise's deparment, etc. that allows to access to virtual infrastructure. |
| Users | Users are the people that are grouped in a group with a similar objectives, or geographical zone, etc. Each user has different profiles. |
| Hard Limits |
The maximum of RAM, CPU and HD resources that are available for a group or enterprise |
| Soft Limits |
The point where system alerts to user if they are arriving to Hard limits. Always soft limits < hard limits |
| Virtual Data Center |
It's a concept that group a set of virtual Appliance in the same Data center and with the same virtualization technology |
| Virtual Appliance | A set of virtual machine definitions running in a virtual data center. |
