The event list

The event list has 7 different components, which are:

  • Source: Here you can see which object of the system is the source of the event or error, moreover, it shows the full hierarchy of that object. For instance, you can see a "MACHINE MODIFY" event, where the source is "myMachine" (the name of the machine) which is part of a rack named "myRack" which in turn is part of a datacenter named "myDatacenter". You also can see that "Abiquo" is the name of the enterprise where the event took place.
  • Date: The date and time associated with the event.
  • Action performed: The action which was performed when the event came up. You can see a complete list of events if you click on the "Action" control in the left side of the metering screen.
  • Performed by: The user who performed the action
  • Trace: Additional information about the event, or the whole stack trace in case of an error.
  • Severity: The severity type of the event. It ranges from "INFO" (nothing wrong happens, just information) to "CRITICAL" (a really serious error). The colour ranges from blue to red.
  • Update automatically: If this check box is checked, new events will be automatically added to the list as they arrive. Otherwise, you must refresh the list manually.

Filtering events

In order to make easier the task of finding an specific event, you can use the filter tool in the left side of the metering screen.

The following screenshot shows an orange-framed zone. This zone contains text fields where you can find by a specific object in the hierarchy shown in the "source" column. For instance, you can search events related with a datacenter, a user, an enterprise, an so on.

There are other filter options below. You can search for events with a specific severity type, or search for a concrete action. Moreover, you can filter by a component of the platform in the "component" field (datacenter, user, enterprise, etc). ¿How useful can this option be? It allows you to see, for example, all the user-related events, where you would see events where an user is created, deleted, modified, logged in or logged out.

In addition to these options, you also can specify an event range of dates, in order to delimit the search even more.

Finally, you can limit the number of results your filter will produce.

You can use one or more fields at the same time, which makes the filter tool a powerful way of finding out what is happening in your system. Enjoy the search!

Note: Use  and  to start a search or clean all the text fields respectively.
