Do Not Rename the Amazon Instance

Do not rename an Amazon instance in Amazon or you will break the link between Abiquo and the virtual machine. If the link is broken, you will not be able to manage the virtual machine with Abiquo.

Prepare to Configure a Virtual Machine in a Public Datacenter

To configure a virtual machine in a public datacenter, if the virtual machine is deployed, power it off.

Move the mouse over the virtual machine icon and click the edit button that appears.

The virtual machine configuration popup will open at the General Information tab.

Change the Hardware Profile

If the virtual machine is not deployed, you can change the hardware profile. Otherwise, you cannot change anything on this tab.

Edit the Network Configuration

You can edit the network configuration of an Amazon virtual machine if it is:

  • Saved but not deployed
  • Deployed and powered off

Click on the Network tab to edit the network configuration. You cannot change the default network IP or add more NICs on the default private network. You can add an elastic IP.

Do Not Rename the Amazon Instance

Do not change the name of an Amazon instance in Amazon or you will break the link between Abiquo and the virtual machine. If the link is broken, you will not be able to manage the virtual machine with Abiquo.

Add an Elastic IP

  • Your Amazon account will have a limit for Elastic IPs in addition to any Abiquo public IP limit for your virtual datacenter
  • You can only add ONE Elastic IP to each virtual machine in Abiquo
  • You cannot move the Elastic IP to another virtual machine

Click the  add button to add an Elastic IP. You can add one Elastic IP to each virtual machine.

  • Amazon charges for Elastic IPs that are allocated but NOT USED by running virtual machines. Therefore you should deploy your machine as soon as possible after adding an Elastic IP. And remember to remove the Elastic IP from a machine when you undeploy it
  • Elastic IPs are counted in your Abiquo Public IP limits

On the Elastic tab, available IPs that are already allocated to your enterprise will appear in the list in the Available IP panel on the right. You can select these IPs.

Or to assign a new Elastic IP, select Elastic IPs on the left, and click Accept.

When you first assign an Elastic IP, the IP address and MAC address will be "-". This is because the IP address and MAC are not assigned until the virtual machine is saved and reconfigured. Click Save to continue.

The Elastic IP address should be displayed as shown in the following screenshot. The IP is part of the Abiquo-elasticIPs unmanaged network.

Remove an Elastic IP

Click the  remove button to remove an Elastic IP.

When you remove the Elastic IP, it will be released and you cannot add it to another machine. When you add another Elastic IP to your machine, there is no guarantee that it will have the same IP address.

Remember to remove the Elastic IP after you undeploy the virtual machine because Amazon charges for Elastic IPs that are not in use.
