Users with the Manage Datacenter privilege can create, edit and delete datacenters. This page describes how to create standard Abiquo datacenters. To create Public Datacenters for hybrid clouds with Abiquo's Amazon integration, see Amazon EC2 Integration

Create a Datacenter or Public Datacenter

API Documentation

For the Abiquo API documentation of this feature, see Abiquo API Resources and the page for this resource DatacenterResource.

To create a new datacenter, click on the add plus button  and select Create Datacenter or Create Public Datacenter from the pulldown menu.

Create a Datacenter

On the Create Datacenter popup, enter the name and location of the datacenter, and the location of the remote services that are deployed as part of the Abiquo platform.

Enter the basic details on the Create Datacenter form

Field

Value

Name

The name of the datacenter

Location

The physical location of the datacenter. Enter the city and country with
only spaces between them. Abiquo will plot this location on the datacenters map.

Create a Public Datacenter

On the Create Public Datacenter popup, enter the public datacenter details. Click Accept to continue.

You will require one separate Amazon account for each enterprise using an Amazon Zone, i.e. one account per enterprise and public datacenter.

Abiquo will create an empty public datacenter. For each enterprise, when you add Amazon credentials, Abiquo will create a machine with the same name as the enterprise. These machines will be organised in racks, with 20 machines per rack.

Enter the basic details on the Create Public Datacenter form

Field

Value

Name

The name of the datacenter

Location

The physical location of the datacenter. Enter the city and country with
only spaces between them. Abiquo will plot this location on the datacenters map.

Remote Services

Abiquo uses the remote services to perform operations in the datacenter. Remote services can be used by one datacenter only.

Remote Service Fields

For each Remote Service complete the following fields, then click Check to test the remote service connection. If the remote services are all running on the same machine, enter the machine's address in the first box and mark the Duplicate IP Addresses checkbox to copy the same URL for all remote services.

Remote Services Field

Value

Protocol

The protocol used to connect to the remote service

Address

The address of the remote service

Port

The port used to connect to the remote service. The default port is 80

Context

The context where the remote service is published

You must enter an accessible (public) IP for the Remote Services servers. Abiquo uses these addresses for intermodule communication between the distributed components of the platform, so you cannot enter  localhost  or  127.0.0.1 . The checked icon will be displayed when the IP format has been verified.

Do not create a Datacenter without all the Remote Services running

On the Create Datacenter form, you should check the remote services by clicking the Check button for all the URLs you have entered. You cannot deploy machines without all the remote services running. Thus we strongly recommend that you do not create a datacenter until all the remote services are up and properly configured.

Configure Appliance Manager Remote Service

The Appliance Manager remote service is used in datacenters. It is not used in public datacenters.

Datacenters Cannot Share an NFS Repository or Appliance Library

Each datacenter MUST have its own NFS repository configured for its own Appliance Library. This is done at Remote Service level. See repositoryLocation in the Abiquo Configuration Properties.

The Virtual FactoryVirtual System Monitor and Appliance Manager Remote Services cannot be shared across datacenters. This is because these remote service configurations include the NFS repository or Appliance Library of the datacenter.

Open the Datacenter After Creation

Mark the checkbox to Automatically open datacenter after creation.

Modify a Datacenter

API Documentation

For the Abiquo API documentation of this feature, see Abiquo API Resources and the page for this resource Datacenter Resource.

To modify a datacenter, click on the datacenter name, then click on the  configuration button at the bottom of the datacenter list.

To change the Datacenter's name and location, enter the new values on the General tab.

Modify Remote Services

The following image shows the pop-up for modifying the remote services in a  datacenter. The information that can be entered in this pop-up is identical to that for creating a datacenter, although the format is different.

The following operations can be performed on the remote services tab:

Button

Action

Add a remote service to the datacenter.

Remove the selected remote service.

Check the status of the selected remote service.

Edit the selected remote service.

Delete a Datacenter

To delete a datacenter, first delete any virtual datacenters defined within it. For more information, see Manage Virtual Datacenters.
Then click the  remove button in the bottom-left part of the DATACENTERS screen.
