To create persistent templates, go to the Virtual datacenters view.

Then go to the Persistent VM templates tab.

Click the  add button.  A dialog will open with the templates available to the current virtual datacenter.

Click Select next to the template you would like to make persistent.

A dialog will open listing the template disks.

Enter a name for your persistent template.

Select the disks to make persistent, the storage tier (for managed storage) and enter the volume name.

Remember that:

  • any template with a persistent disk is a persistent template
  • the first disk selected will be disk 0 in the disk sequence of the new template. It should be a bootable system disk
